New Housing for Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing Seniors

Following several years of planning and partnership between New England Homes for the Deaf (NEHD) and WinnDevelopment, preliminary work has begun to prepare for the construction of The Waterhouse, a new 116-apartment housing community for Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing seniors.

The first phase of early work for The Waterhouse is expected to last until the end of August 2026. It will involve limited site preparation activities to prepare the NEHD campus with staging and temporary safety improvements before full construction begins in late summer 2026.

Work for all phases of construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., although activities on most days will likely end around 3 p.m. Occasional Saturday work may be needed. No work will occur on Sundays.

The project team will do everything possible to limit impacts and to provide advance notice when work is expected to affect parking, access, traffic patterns, noise, or other day-to-day activities on

campus. A police detail may also be present, when needed, to help manage traffic and safety. For your safety, please stay clear of construction areas and follow all posted signs. Please do not enter fenced construction areas, even if work is not actively taking place.

This is an important milestone for the NEHD campus and the broader Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing community. When it's completed n the spring of 2028, The Waterhouse will create 116 new homes designed to expand access to affordable, accessible housing for the community NEHD has served for more than 100 years.

Thank you for your patience and support as this long-awaited effort begins. This web site will be a key tool to keep the community informed of progress on this project.
